Trevor grew up in Montreal in a home filled with music, three siblings, several cats and one bird. Both his parents (Dr. Harrison Jones and Clare Jones) were musicians and teachers.
Trevor went to McGill University and got his degree in metallurgical engineering. He played a lot of squash and competitive bridge while he was there, and the clarinet was his instrument in the McGill band. But his passion was golf. He started young at small golf courses in cottage country and in his late teens was playing tournament golf all over Montreal.
Trevor worked as a metallurgical engineer in Montreal, Toronto, and Vancouver. He loved solving failure problems. It was the move to Vancouver with its mountains, free flowing rivers and ocean that got him backpacking, river kayaking and ocean too. He became an advocate for wilderness preservation.
He wrote the first economic analysis of logging versus protecting proposed parks in British Columbia. It was on the Stein Valley. He did the analysis of the proposed open pit copper mine near the Tatshenshini River, and many economic analyses for the Valhalla Wilderness Society. According to the director, Wayne McCrory, these helped their campaigns so much.
Trevor is survived by his wife Hughie, daughter Kate (Josh), son Ben (Heidi) and grandchildren Zach (Feather), Jake (Hannah), Luke (Aoife), Katie, and Charlie Clare. We all miss him and remember every trip he took us off the tourist circuit as magnificent - going down the Amazon River in a mail boat with his children and the beauty of Death Valley in winter with all his grandchildren. He loved those grandchildren and they all loved him back.

Dear Hughie (my very bright and delightfully unconventional long time friend),
I am so sorry to hear that Trevor( also very bright and unconventional) has passed. BC was a great place for you both to spend your lives, enjoying the outdoors and contributing to the environment and the community.
What a partnership. I am so sorry for your loss and for your families' loss. Focus on all those wonderful memories and make more of them.
Condolences, love and hugs,
Sue ad Tom Stephens
