Write a Tribute

It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved Mum, Nana, and Gigi, Sharon Ann Ewen on Saturday January 3, 2026.

She is predeceased by her mother Martha Calder, father James Calder, her sisters Marian Lee, Darlene Calder, Joan Morrison, and Elaine Bruyere, her brothers James Calder, and Albert Calder.

Left to mourn and cherish her memory is Tammy and Alexander Hillier Edmonton, AB,  Robert Ewen (RJ) Burnaby, B.C, Paula and Garth Bacon Nelson, B.C. Grandchildren Joshua Bradley, Jamie-Ann Hunter, Natasha and Tyler Larsen, Brian Rennich, Brooklynn Rennich and Jayden Tattrie, Ty Rennich, Daniel Dadi-Cantarino, Meghan Hillier, Skylar Hillier, and Jayden Hillier. Great-grandchildren Andrew Rennich, Everleigh Rennich, Hadley Rennich, Talia Larsen, and Brynna Larsen. Along with many treasured friends.

Sharon was born in Fort Frances, Ontario in 1948, she was the sixth of seven children. She was born into a musical family that loved to play instruments and sing. Her father played the fiddle and James was a gifted guitarist. It wasn't uncommon for a kitchen party to break out.

Sharon married Eric Ewen in 1971 and welcomed their first daughter, Tammy in September. In 1972, they moved to Vancouver. In March of 1973 they welcomed what they thought was one baby, but SURPRISE, it's twins! Robert and Paula. In January of 1974 they settled into their forever home in Burnaby, B.C. Sharon made many friends with other stay at home moms. Most notably, Sherry Walker who became a life long friend. Together, they raised their families, they celebrated holidays and special occasions together.

Sharon was led to the Lord by her sister and brother in-law Pat and Jack Kowall. Her relationship with Jesus became the most important relationship in her life. Mum loved the Lord with all her heart, with all her mind, and with all her soul. She loved to worship Him through song and dance; she could often be heard singing songs of praise and worshipping her Saviour.

Sharon was a natural caregiver, when her kids were young and she was at home, she would often take in children to babysit during the day. She really loved babies and taking care of little kids. When her children got older she took a part time job at Lougheed Mall helping out with seasonal events, such as being an elf and taking pictures of kids with Santa, and assisting in the Mother's Day diaper derby, she really loved this!

Sharon began volunteering in the Burquitlam Lions Care Center in the early 2000's, she loved working with the elderly.  She eventually became a paid companion and a regular volunteer. This is where she met her dear friend Farah, Eddie, and their son Daniel, who quickly became family.

Sharon loved to laugh. She loved her family, she loved her kids and grandchildren. We once heard her say if she knew how much fun grandkids were she would have had them first! She had a particular love and fondness for her great grandchildren, who affectionately called her Gigi.

If you were fortunate enough to have Sharon call you a friend you knew you had a loyal person in your corner for life. She was great fun, she loved to laugh, play, and tease. But if you needed prayer, a listening ear, a meal, or a shoulder to cry on, she would drop everything and welcome you with open arms.

We delight in the knowledge that she is in the arms of Jesus, and we will see her again.

Please join us to celebrate our mum's life on Saturday January 10, 2026 at 1:00 pm.

Sharon was open her kind , generous heart and home to our family. She had a gift of hospitality. As immigrant family we didn’t have much friend , Sharon invited us every Christmas, Thanksgiving and Easter and treated us like her own family. She would send us home with lots of food and her friendship over 20 years made us feel loved. Every chance I had I would introduce Sharon to my Iranian community as true Canadian . All my Iranian friends loved her soft , kind spirit . We will miss her so much.
Love you Sharon ( full moon) ❤️💜💕say hi to Jesus from us .
See you one day on the other side.

Sharon was a good friend when we were living in the same complex. I enjoyed our visits while you kids played. I remember her as being a kind soul. I missed those times when I moved away
