With heavy hearts, the family of Rose Marie Butterworth said our goodbyes.

Mom, grandma, and great-grandma, passed away on September 5, 2026. She was born in Mission, BC on January 25, 1936.  She is survived by children Lynne, Kathleen and husband Gary, and son John.   Also survived by sisters Margarita and Joannie.

She is already being missed by her 7 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. She so loved each and every one and spending time with them.  Rose Marie is also lovingly remembered by numerous nieces and nephews.

She was pre-deceased by her husband of 62 years Bob (Robert) and son Bobby (Robert Jr), as well as her parents Julius and Rosie Kopfensteiner, siblings Philip, Gerald, Betty and Linda.

After retiring from teaching at the elementary school level, she took up acting. She auditioned as an extra for the local movie industry as well as television commercials of which a few of them she was prominently featured.

Her biggest love was celebrating her heritage at the Austria Vancouver club, where she could be heard singing in the choir, being the music librarian, helping in the kitchen and at Oktoberfest, as well as joining Henry’s Hikers and going on many walks with them.  She so enjoyed her many friends and the music and dancing at the club.

I am so sad to hear of your loss of such a great lady and teacher. My condolences to all her family and friends. I have always kept Mrs Butterworth close in my heart throughout my life as she was a guiding light for me during my elementary years at Annieville and throughout my life. I looked up to her and respected her for her kindness and gentleness during very tumultuous times during those years and she helped formulate the type of person I have become in life. A person with compassion, understanding, patience, gentleness, non-judgmental, down-to-earth, open, helpful, joyful and decent human being who would help anyone in need at any time. She was a true inspiration to myself and so many others to aspire to be the best we could be! Thank-you, Mrs Butterworth, for the brief time we shared. I pray your journey is soft and takes you to the infinite space of infinity on gossamer wings. You are forever in my soul. Merçi, thank-you, Dank U wel. God Bless.

My most sincere condolences on the passing of your dear Mom. I have so very many happy and fond memories of being with your family from the time I was a wee child back in the 1960’s. Weekend gatherings, birthdays, Christmas’ .. Rose Marie was such a sweet, soft spoken and divinely dressed lady, even up until the last time I saw her years ago. The passing of a beloved parent is never a life event that is easy to understand, to accept or to deal with however a life long lived together with her as your Mother, continuing to do what she always loved to do most will warm your heart with fond and cherished memories and no regrets. Much love to you Lynne, Kathleen, John and families and I look forward to offering my hugs in person when I join with you all at her memorial.

Rose Marie and I were schoolmates in New Westminster. We had many good times then , and when she and Bob joined in the fun at the C.N.R. get togethers while they were living in Delta. That was a good number of years ago - time does fly. My condolences to the whole family.

It is hard for me to believe Rosemarie is no longer with us. As her son-in-law, I was blessed to become part of her family. She had work so hard on successfully creating a loving relationship with all of her family, especially her children and her children's children's children. I'll remember her as having such a gentle soul and friendly spirit that made her the favorite Great Grandma amongst her grandkids. As a Christian, I personally find comfort in my faith during times of loss, knowing that she's resting in the loving arms of Jesus. It was a great honor to know her as a Mother in law and friend. My deepest condolences to the family for our loss. She will be greatly missed.

She was the best teacher I ever had by far! I’ll never forget her always telling us she was a dinosaur who had lost her tail when it came to anything about how long she had been a teacher etc .

By far one of the best teachers I have ever had. I loved that she always had a pocket full of candy to those that were good and listened. A great story teller, and we knew how much her family meant to her. She loved them all very much.

Dear Rose Marie was my husband Walte‘s sister-in-law and I always called her that too. I was always very happy to talk to her at events at the Austria Vancouver Club and enjoyed the trips with the Choir of the Alps in Europe together with her sister Margarita and to Kelowna.
With her gentle and friendly ways she accomplished much in her life and it was just a joy to be with her. I will miss her very much and I always will love her. Rest in peace.🙏
