Peter R. Purling & Christine M. Purling

Write a Tribute

Peter Roy Purling was born November 19, 1945, in the UK. He passed away on June 12, 2026, in Richmond, BC, due to complications from multiple health problems.

As a young man, Peter joined the British Army, where he proudly served in the infantry. He later met the love of his life, Christine M. Purling, born November 24, 1946. Together they began a love story that would span nearly six decades.

Peter and Christine lived in the UK for the first few years of their life together before immigrating to Canada in 1969, where they built a home, raised their family and shared a lifetime of memories.

Christine had an incredible energy for life. She was an avid runner and was also a dedicated dragon boat racer. Peter loved golfing, and together they shared a love of travelling, family and simply enjoying life side by side.

After Peter’s passing, Christine followed him a short time later, passing away on August 11, 2026, in Richmond, BC, after a courageous battle with cancer.

The love they shared was like no other, 58 years filled with love, laughter, adventures, tears and all the moments that make up a life together. They were apart for only a short time at the end of their journeys, and we like to believe they are together once again, dancing, singing, laughing and enjoying each other’s company just as they always did.

Peter and Christine will be deeply missed by their three children, Ricky (Laurel), Craig (Rachel) and Joanne (J.D.) and their five grandchildren Sophia, Dacey, Donovan, Daiya and Grayson and one great-granddaughter Raelyn as well as their sisters, brothers, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, extended family and many friends whose lives they touched over the years.

Mom and Dad, we miss you dearly every single day.

Together for 58 years, apart for only a moment, and now together again.

Love you to the moon. ❤️

My heart is broken. I will miss their light heartedness and joy for life. They have been such a big part of our family since growing up in Transcona, Winnipeg. Mom and Chris were best friends and Mom and Dad loved spending time with them. Chris was a legend with her running and boundless energy. They are deeply missed. Sending lots of love xx

I have been struggling with what to write as a tribute to my friends Chris and Pete. My heart is full of so many memories from the past 30 plus years. I first met Chris when she came to work at the Red Cross. Her laughter, kindness and zest for life was inspiring. She welcomed me into her life and home where I met Pete, her parents, Bob and Alice, her 3 wonderful children, and her sister, Lyn and husband Tony. My memories of all the laughs we shared and the mischief we encountered along the way will always be very special to me.
My heart goes out to Rick, Craig and Joanne and their families. Your mom and dad created a wonderful legacy and they live on in all of you.

Bob and I first met Pete & Chris 30 years ago at a dance club. Chris's infectious laugh, Pete's dry sense of humor and their welcoming, kind personalities immediately won us over and we became close friends from that day forward. Over the years we shared lots and lots of dancing, dinners, laughter, tears, joys, adventures, maybe a glass of wine or 2 and each others families and grandchildren. Family was a high priority to Pete and Chris, always putting their children first.
We feel fortunate to have shared so many wonderful memories fulfilling our lives, thanks to Pete and Chris. They were such a loving couple and will be forever in our hearts and minds. We miss them dearly.
Our deepest sympathy to Rick, Jo, Craig and their extended families. They cherished all of you and spoke of you often. We hope your memories bring you some comfort at this difficult time.
Pete and Chris you are together again, keep on dancing and may you rest in peace.
Love Bob and Joanne

Chris was such a special person. I feel so lucky that our paths crossed, first at Canadian Blood Services, and then again in Steveston and through dragon boating. I’ll always remember her laughter, her kindness, and all the giggling we shared in the boat. I’ll miss her generosity and the warmth she brought to everyone around her. ❤️

My hubby & I were neighbours of Pete and Chris in Lagoons and spent some time with them there. We moved away and have since made our way back to Steveston and have connected with them over the years. They have both been particularly down to earth and friendly people, especially when it came to the community and particularly Steveston! Together, they were a smashing couple and I am glad to have known them both.

Two beautiful people. We are forever grateful for the time we got to spend with them when they have been over to the uk. Pete was always such a gentleman and Chris was always full of happy energy and me and the kids loved them. I will never forgot our last moments with us and mum before she passed and all of us on the balcony releasing her butterflies. 🦋
I hope you are all up there being the beautiful butterflies that you are xx

I have so many wonderful memories of my Aunty Chris and Uncle Pete. They welcomed us into their family when we lived in Canada and we all had so much fun together. They were both just the kindest people and I loved being in their company, especially sharing a glass of wine with Aunty Chris or Uncle Pete teaching me how to do the perfect poached egg! He was the only person I knew who had a nickname for me, I was always KD to him. I shall miss them both so much xx

Chris and Pete gave me so many wonderful memories! Them being in the UK or us going to Canada was always so exciting. What I will remember them best for, is being such incredible friends to my Granny Penny and Granda Joe, and the laughs they had together. Though not family by blood, it will always be Aunty Chris and Uncle Pete. Rest in peace x
