Marion died peacefully, lovingly surrounded by her children at her residence in Vancouver BC.

Born in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan to James Alexander Elliot and Jessie Elizabeth Elliott. She was predeceased by her father, mother, brother, Larry Elliott, and husband of 52 years, Glen Lee Smith.

Deeply loved and cherished by her children: Lee Anne, Kent (Jane), Calvin (Lee), grandchildren:
Molly, (Nick), Ian, Bret (Mikayla), Iver (Eamon), Samuel and great grandchildren: Odin, Presley and Grant.

Marion was deeply devoted to her entire family and strongly believed in all of us. She encouraged us to go beyond what we thought we could do. As the family archivist, she had an infallible memory of family connections documenting them in a family history book which was distributed for all of us to have, now that she is gone.

As a young mother she was generous and encouraging to other mothers and we remember many coffee times with the neighbourhood women sharing stories about raising kids with each other, the children all running around.

She loved to play bridge, dance to jazz music with Glen, host family celebrations, treat her grandchildren to Disneyland and camping trips, host delicious suppers for friends, travel (with Glen they traveled to 40 countries) and singing in choirs.  Her last trip was on her own on the Trans-Siberian Express. She enjoyed being a member of the Stanley Park Lawn Bowling and Bridge Club for many years.

Marion was a strong and caring woman committed to social justice, especially with women and children.  Her work as an administrative assistant at Langley School Board, Coordinator of Family and Children programs at Langley Family Services and as the Executive Director of Cythera Anti-Violence Organization brought her great purpose and reward.

After retiring, and the death of her beloved husband in 2006, at 72 years of age she attended Simon Fraser University, graduating with a Liberal Arts Degree at 74. She was a tireless advocate for social change, volunteering with many organizations (board member of Community Justice Initiatives: Restorative Justice in Langley, citizen committee to create an alternative school in the Surrey School District, educator for high
school students on relationship abuse for the United Way, breast cancer peer volunteer for the BC Cancer Society, member of West Coast LEAF, a women’s health clinic, member of the City of Vancouver Women’s Advisory Council.

A “Celebration of Life” will be held on July 3rd at a location to be confirmed. In lieu of flowers, donations to the charity of your choice on her behalf would please Mom greatly. She will be greatly missed by her family and many friends.

Marion was a good friend. She was always a willing listener and she always had a good story to tell. She had a wonderful laugh that made one think they were incredibly funny. She was the first person to reach out and befriend me at SPLBC. I will miss her so much.

I had been thinking of her yesterday and thinking I should call her, I guess it was her. Marion was such a woman of wisdom, I so enjoyed our times together and will always remember the memories of the Smith family she shared with me.
She will be missed.
