It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Louise Ermide Brisset on April 17, 2026, at the age of 79 in Vancouver, BC. Louise was born and grew up in Montreal surrounded by her large French Canadian and Italian family. In 1971, she moved to British Columbia and called Vancouver home for the remainder of her life.
Louise was the beloved daughter of the late Roland Brisset and Victoria DiGiorgio. She is survived by her brother, Roland Brisset; her son, Stefan Merchant; and her daughter, Genevieve Shepherd. She was a proud and devoted grandmother to Gabriel, Sophia, and Joshua Shepherd, and Isaac and Giselle Merchant.
Louise was an intellectual at heart who read widely and held a passion for art, gardening and lifelong learning. She was a strong, principled, and independent woman who believed deeply in the value of kindness towards others. As a mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, she was a constant source of wisdom, guidance, and love to those fortunate enough to know her.
She will be remembered for her strength of character, her curiosity about the world, and her unwavering commitment to her family.
Louise was deeply loved and will be deeply missed.

Louise was my mother-in-law for 26 years. I will miss her intelligence, her generosity, the talks we’d have over a meal at family gatherings. She was a great grandmother to her grandchildren and mother to her kids. Thanks for being such a big part of our lives, Louise. You’ve returned to nature, but your essence will be with us forever. Love, Matt

Louise.
I am deeply saddened, you have just passed away…
I cherish the wonderful memories of our time together. I thank you for that.
Do you remember our walks in Montreal, on Saint-Denis Street, which you loved so much?
And those in Vancouver?
And our lovely and long conversations about culture, art, and exhibitions, and life in general?
I always asked about your beautiful garden, a little gem! You had a real green thumb.
Dear Louise, you were an extraordinary person and I will miss you very much. I promise to never forget what you meant to me.
My deepest and most heartfelt condolences to the family, Genevieve, Stephan and their children during this difficult time. I share your pain.
