Dawn Hellene Miller (nee Ruddick), of West Vancouver via Gibsons, Prince George, and Vancouver,
passed away May 28, 2026, at Lions Gate Hospital, with her husband and children at her side.


From Dawn’s early days growing up in South Vancouver, she was committed to mentorship and
community development. Her mission was to inspire people to enrich their lives through broadened
experiences, lifelong learning, and the creation of a life they love. Not only did Dawn provide
leadership, but she was also a model of attentiveness, thoughtfulness, and genuine commitment to
upholding her personal, professional, and community values. Dawn received many awards of
excellence in communication, leadership, and mentorship, including Businesswoman of the Year,
Mentor of the Year by the Minerva Foundation, and for Outstanding Achievement as a Community
Builder. In 2020, Dawn was recognized for her role in leading the development of the Women’s
Enterprise Society of BC, BC Regional Science & Technology Network, Northern Interior Science
Council, and the Innovation Resource Centre. She was an active volunteer with the Sunshine Coast
Community Futures Association and a health coach with the Self-Management Health Program at
the University of Victoria. Dawn was a long-time champion within the Toastmasters community and
was recognized by Toastmasters International for her leadership. Nothing made Dawn happier than
bringing out the best in others.


Dawn is survived by her husband Bob, sons Julian and Rob, daughter-in-law Alicia, and two
grandsons, Flynn and Azlan, her brother Dennis Ruddick, and sisters-in-law Marie (Cec) and
Margaret Pierce. Dawn was predeceased by her mother, Hilda Ruddick; her father, Henry Ruddick;
her stepmother, Bernice Davis; and her stepbrother, Art Pierce.


A celebration of life will be held June 23, 2026, 2 – 4 pm at Amica West Vancouver, 865 Clyde
Avenue, West Vancouver, V7T 1C8, 604 921 9181.
