One of the most common questions we get asked is, “why are your fees so much less than traditional funeral homes?” It’s a fair question and the answer will help you make the choice that’s right for you and your family.

When a loved one passes away, many decisions need to be made. Choosing the right cremation provider is among the first of those decisions. While a traditional neighborhood funeral home was your only choice and might be the first thing you consider, technology and, in particular, the internet has changed all that. It’s important to understand all your options for a direct cremation are available at Care and Comfort Cremations, so you can make the best decision without needless extra cost.

Overview of a Traditional Funeral Home

Attending a traditional funeral home can be daunting.  The buildings are often the oldest building in town owned by the same family for many generations, or managed by large public corporations. As you step through the door, you will typically hear elevator music designed to calm your nerves, and all the staff speak in soft, non-frightening tones. You will be ushered into a small office before being joined by a funeral director. For the next 1 to 2 hours, you will discuss all the products and services they offer from caskets and urns to viewings, funeral services, and catered receptions.

But what if you don't want any of those things?

What Makes Us Different?

We offer what is known in our profession as a "direct cremation". While traditional funeral homes tie a cremation (or burial) together with some kind of farewell event, we treat the cremation and the final farewell separately. We take care of the first, and let you look after the second. The cremation portion is identical to what you get from a traditional funeral home but without any of the unwanted extras. We give you the freedom to plan a farewell event (funeral, celebration of life, etc.) where, when, and how you want, or you may choose to do nothing at all. The choice is entirely yours.

Furthermore, our arrangements can be completed in under 30 minutes over the phone or on-line. You never have to leave the comfort of your own home or office. And, since we don't have the overhead associated with owning a building, maintaining a chapel and reception hall, or carrying a large inventory of caskets and urns, we are able to pass those savings on to you.

The Beauty in Every Story...

There are many reasons why acknowledging a death has value. That is why we include a free obituary or tribute with every cremation. Here are just a few of the reasons:

  • Paying tribute to the person who has died - Everyone has a unique life story. In nearly every case, it’s a story that should be told and preserved. We all know the deceased lived, but people want to know how that person lived and what was important to them. In addition to the basic facts—age, date of birth, date of death, survivors, predecessors—an obituary can include a person’s hobbies, favorite foods, sports teams, work history and any other accomplishments that special about your loved one.
  • Sharing your loss with the community - People should know that one of your loved ones has died. They can reach out with condolences, prayers and offers to help. Our on-line tributes have a comments section so others can express their grief, offer condolences, share memories, and post photos. Grieving can and should be a community event.
  • Writing a tribute can help ease the grieving process - Remembrance is an important part of grieving. When you think about your loved one, you are often recounting that person’s history and remembering why that person was important to you and others. Writing those memories down often provides a spark of admiration, perhaps even humor, that will remind you that the good things about your loved one live on in you and others. It has been said that death does not end a relationship – it only changes it from presence to memory. Writing a tribute helps keep those memories alive.
