What is Direct Cremation?

Arranging a funeral or memorial service in the wake of a loved one’s death can be a very emotional experience. It can be extremely difficult to make decisions about a memorial event when you are at the height of your grief. Instead, you may choose to deal with the cremation first and plan a memorial service later when you are more emotionally prepared. That is why we offer what is known in our profession as a “direct cremation.”

A direct cremation is a simplified end-of-life service where the deceased is transferred from their place of death to our sheltering facility with cremation following shortly thereafter. This allows you to grieve and memorialize in your own time, rather than needing to rush through the funeral planning process immediately following the death.

A direct cremation also eliminates many of the costs associated with more formal funeral services, with the only expenditures being those that are necessary for the cremation to be performed. Our direct cremation package at Care & Comfort Cremations includes phone or zoom arrangements with a funeral director, transfer to our sheltering facility, registration of death, basic cremation container, cremation, cardboard urn, and a complimentary tribute posted on our website. Other options are available if desired.

Care and Comfort Cremations is located in Vancouver and serves Vancouver, Richmond, Burnaby, and the North Shore. We offer cremations at a fraction of the cost of a traditional funeral homes while providing personal service with reverence and respect.
